Let’s Get Ready to Rumble

April 13th, 2009

Well I didn’t get to go to the Masters like Dan did but I get to go to the next best thing. Tonight I will be attending WWE at Phillips Arena.

From what I have been told, tonight they are having a draft. Not really sure what that means but I know it will be a rocking good time.

I will have to compare notes on Tuesday with Dan and see just how different it is when you attend The Masters or when you attend WWE when they are having a draft.

Maybe I will be lucky enough to see a classic like in the video below.

A Familiar Face Speaks

February 21st, 2009

Former Falcon Head Coach Jim Mora spoke to the media just moments ago.

Mora said that this year will feel much different than it did in 2004 when he was in his first year in Atlanta. He said that Mike Holmgren has set the table with some great players and some great expectations.

It was weird seeing Mora speaking at a podium because the last time I saw him doing that it was January 1, 2007 when he was fired as Head Coach of the Falcons.

Mob Scene

February 20th, 2009

It is pretty funny how the media operates here.

Thomas Dimitroff just spoke to the media for over 15 minutes but after he steps down the same group of reporters that asked him questions run after him and ask him more questions in the hallway.

And it is not just Thomas. It happens to every Coach and GM that speaks here.

You Have to Love the Kid from No-Name College

February 19th, 2009

Ever heard of Hartwick College?

Yeah, me neither.

Well the Division Three College out of Oneonta, NY is home to a four year starter at Quarterback that is getting a serious look from NFL scouts.

Jason Boltus is the 6'3" 255lb prospect that thinks he can run the 40 yard dash in under 4.6. In 2008, Boltus completed 60 percent of his passes for more than 3,900 yards, with 46 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions.

After the 2009 NFL Draft, Boltus could be responsible for making people more familiar with Hartwick College.

New Digs

February 19th, 2009

This is my fourth straight year covering the combine for AF.com and I will admit that it had become pretty routine.

That is until today.

I didn't make the usual walk to the RCA dome and Indianapolis Convention Center. I would always sit at the same table because I knew it had extra electrical outlets for all of my equipment.

This morning was different though. We had to walk outside and battle the cold weather and we even walked past the remains of the RCA dome. We made our way to Lucas Oil Stadium which is the new site for the NFL Scouting Combine.

I couldn't find that table with the extra outlets. I guess I will just have to make the best of it. I will say that I think I will like the new set up. It is much bigger with extra podiums so that will mean more players.

Here is video of the new diggs.

Why didn’t I think of that?

January 29th, 2009

Move over Gus Johnson. I have found my new favorite play-by-play announcer and his name is Randy Moller.

Moller is the voice of the Florida Panthers and shtick is to insert pop culture references after a Panther goal.

I have a tie for what call is my favorite. “Get off my lawn!” from Gran Torino and “There is a new sheriff in town and his name is Reggie Hammond.” from 48 hours had me crying.

Mr. Moller I have a request. I would like to hear something from the movie Tommy Boy.

What do you think?
